Spring Cleaning for the Soul

By: Aswynn Willowroot

For many of us, as we bid farewell to what feels like the longest winter in recorded history, we will embrace spring with both a sense of gratitude and relief. Spring welcomes in a time of renewal, possibilities, and optimism. The sun melts the ice and snow while warming the earth. Trees and flowers begin to bloom. New life is everywhere. And just as nature needs a respite from the cold, dark months of winter, we too need the warmth and light of spring to awaken from a sleepy hibernation of inactivity and solitude.

Spring is the ideal time to plant the internal seeds that lead to personal growth, big life changes, and lasting transformation. Just as we spring clean our home, it is equally productive to spring clean the soul. We begin this process by renewing, refreshing, and rejuvenating the spirit.

Renew Tend the soil of your life. The biggest advantage to spring cleaning the soul is how good it feels to shed the former self. The past is in the past. The only power the past has in the present moment is the power you give it. Clear the cobwebs and clutter from your mind. Cleanse and purify your heart. Toss out any bitterness, anger or negativity. This is a new season. Release anything which no longer serves you or your life purpose in order to begin anew. See clearly that you are no longer who you were in the past and what you will be in the future is entirely up to you.

Refresh Nourish the new life you're creating. Now that you've shed the past and it no longer haunts you, it's time to refresh your soul. No matter what the state of your life right here, right now, you have the power and ability to change it for the better. You will find a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm when you reflect on your true goals and wishes while simultaneously creating new patterns and behaviors which will help facilitate the achievement of your deepest desires. We refresh our soul when we listen, acknowledge, and act on its sacred promptings.

Rejuvenate Harvest the seeds you've planted. You've forgiven yourself for the past. You've created new goals which are in perfect alignment with your soul and life purpose. Now it's time to rejuvenate your spirit. Rejuvenation occurs when we formulate a plan of action with a deep willingness to change. We make proactive and conscious efforts every day. We are aware of our actions. We stop, contemplate, and meditate about our choices to ensure we stay on track. When we take action, we breathe new life and infinite potentiality into the present moment. Springtime holds an amazing opportunity for us to begin again, start over fresh, and reinvent ourselves as well as our lives. When we cultivate new growth opportunities and share in the process of renewal, we experience a rebirth of our core self and are spiritually restored.
