Coincidences - Fate's Secret Agents

In 1898, Morgan Robertson wrote a novella about an unsinkable ocean-liner named Titan crossing the Atlantic, hitting an unexpected iceberg and sinking. It’s an April night in the story. Only fourteen years later in April 1912, an actual ocean-liner called Titanic sank in the Atlantic on an April night, and became a lesson of hubris vs. modesty, and an epic symbol.

Was it transtemporal travel – the author traveling forward in time and seeing what will happen - or "just" a coincidence?

What explains this extremely weird incident?

A Meeting of Purposes

Everything in the vast universe is connected. A Navajo legend has it that the world was weaved together by the deity Spider Woman. And the Navajo aren’t alone – many cultures around the world, including major spiritual systems, hold that we’re children of the same energy. That what one of us does affects others. That at the end of the day our life tasks or soul purposes – those activities, feelings and desires that drive us in our core – aren’t all that different from one another.



Some of us have very similar desires and soul purposes – so similar that we become soul mates and end up in each other’s lives as lovers, partners, mothers, fathers, children or best friends. We meet people through what we call chance encounters, get jobs through connections we think we made randomly… In our rationality-crazy society, it’s easy to brush such events off as “just a coincidence” and move on.

Coincidences are Smart Events

Think of the universe as a collective maze of “purpose corridors” – we’re all here to enter it, grow through it, fulfill our goals and reach an exit.

The people who we consider evil are just lost – sometimes really, really lost. This can be very scary – sometimes leading the person to (subconsciously) replace their positive, seemingly difficult life task with a negative and easier one. We may run into such people in our lives – the best defense is awareness – awareness of our own positive life task.

Life’s maze has many intersections and these intersections tend to create coincidences, such as when you run into an old friend just when you need a shoulder to cry on, or you find the perfect dress for that important event on 70% sale, or you get stuck on an elevator with your future husband. In each case, your old friend, the dress-seller and your husband-to-be had their own soul purpose, which complemented yours. This is why you met at that specific intersection of your lives.

Secret Agents of Your Fate

Many spiritual masters and psychics believe that each soul determines its own life task before coming to Earth. In Judaism, souls descend here to improve themselves and the world. Each gets a unique task to do so. In Buddhism, souls come here to find their Godly nature through various mindfulness practices, each developing and learning in their individual way.

These are just examples. It doesn't matter what faith you were born into; according to the masters, it was you who picked the main ingredients of your fate. You decided what your overarching goals were. Within these goals, you have free will, of course. You can always choose to disregard your life task, or sometimes get lost in life’s maze without intending to, or not have a clue as to what drives you, but know that coincidences will do their best to help show you the way and put you back on the track your soul had chosen for you.



Coincidences are the universe’s way of communicating with you. They are God’s gift and we must pay attention to them, embrace them, and understand what they serve in our life. We must read them well, so we can find fulfillment. So we can let go of fear and take a leap of faith.

For example:

• An old acquaintance reappearing - pay attention to the timing, why they approach you and how it makes you feel. What may be your lesson? Emotional closure? Forgiveness? Opening a new chapter?


• Small random events - a song on the radio that makes you nostalgic. A random commercial that reminds you of a person, place or a memory. An email arriving as the answer you were looking for. A book you come across that speaks to you.


• Sudden deep feelings you get - while watching a movie, listening to a friend, or through some social post, if you find that you feel powerful emotions, life is inviting you to look within. Don’t get scared - take the opportunity instead.

Coincidences and Psychic Readings

We get psychic readings when we’re lost in our life maze. When our soul mate is just a corridor over yet we don’t know. And it could be that he also doesn’t know. When our dream job is just a corner away but we don’t know if we should take a left or a right. The psychic reading itself becomes the coincidence we need.

What does all this mean for you?

If, in one area of your life, coincidences move you forward tremendously, know that you’re on the right path - whether it’s love, family, health, or your career. You may be a star yoga teacher in a community desperate for physical or psychological health - here your personal purpose and the collective desire of your community overlap. Remember this when you doubt yourself (this, by the way, is what happened to Titan’s writer Robertson – his drive to write “coincided” with our collective drive to change our class-based society).

In which area of your life do you find life sending you coincidences the most? That’s a clear sign. If they are negative coincidences, change paths. If they are positive, no need to fear – continue what you’re doing with more courage and devotion.

If you learn to read the mysterious language of coincidences, you’ll decipher your life purpose. You’ll understand yourself much better. You’ll fulfill your dreams – your real, soul-desired dreams.
